This project was a complete landscape design and build for a brand-new home in Lafayette, located in Boulder County. The homeowners wanted a beautiful and functional outdoor space that supported their lifestyle — with room for their dogs to run, space to garden, areas to relax, and natural privacy from nearby neighbors.

The property presented several challenges, including narrow side yards, an upward-sloping backyard, and water pooling from a neighbor’s irrigation system that ran through the fence line. Our team was tasked with creating a cohesive layout that solved these issues while also maximizing every inch of available space.

  • Original lot conditions with tight property lines and uneven grade — a blank canvas full of drainage and usability challenges.

  • Beginning the keystone retaining wall install to create a flat, functional yard space and redirect water drainage.

  • Evergreen privacy screen installed along the property line for natural separation and year-round visual coverage.

  • Finished view of lush sod installation, retaining wall, and layered plantings that created a private, usable backyard retreat.

  • Custom paver patio designed to support a hot tub — framed with timbers and integrated into the overall landscape design.

  • Raised cedar garden beds with full irrigation — designed for daily access and seasonal vegetable growing.

  • River rock borders and mulch beds around the house improve drainage and protect the foundation while softening the architecture.

Key features of the remodel included: 

  • A custom-designed landscape plan tailored to the homeowner’s lifestyle and site-specific challenges
  • Construction of a keystone retaining wall to level the backyard and create usable flat lawn space
  • Installation of a full spray and drip irrigation system, including pressure-regulated emitters for plantings and efficient lawn coverage
  • Integration of gutter downspouts and drainage diversion techniques to address water pooling and prevent erosion
  • A custom paver patio designed to accommodate a hot tub and serve as a focal point for relaxation
  • Planting of xeriscaped borders, layered privacy screening, and vibrant, low-maintenance perennials
  • Construction of custom vegetable garden beds, easily accessible and integrated into the drip irrigation system
  • Installation of fresh sod and carefully selected plantings to create distinct zones while keeping the space open and free-flowing

This project truly blended function, comfort, and aesthetics. Every detail was intentionally placed — from the drainage solutions to the privacy screening. The final result was a seamless, low-maintenance, and welcoming outdoor living space. The clients were thrilled with the outcome, saying it provided everything they had envisioned: a functional space for the dogs, vibrant garden zones, and a relaxing atmosphere that made the most of their property.
