Featured Project: Luxury Custom Home Landscape Installation – Berthoud, CO

AGT Landscape & Design Featured Project: Berthoud, Colorado 2024

This landscape installation was designed for a luxury custom home situated on over 2 acres in Berthoud, Colorado. The property presented a number of challenges, including severe erosion, multiple slopes and land levels, and large areas of heavily disturbed ground left over from construction.

Our goal was to create a seamless, functional, and beautiful landscape that felt natural within the rural setting while delivering a high-end look and feel. The client prioritized large lawn areas, native plantings, low-maintenance borders, and a sustainable irrigation system that could handle diverse zones across the expansive property.

  • The property presented a number of challenges, including severe erosion, multiple slopes and land levels, and large areas of heavily disturbed ground left over from construction.

  • We needed to clear, grade and prepare the soil for the new sod and landscape design.

  • Creation of multiple large lawn areas wrapping around the home for open green space and recreational use

  • Construction of natural river boulder retaining walls to stabilize and shape steep slope areas, blending function with natural aesthetics

  • Installation of a 300-foot naturalistic granite rip rap creek bed to channel water away from the home and control erosion — also serving as a striking focal point

Key features of the remodel included:

  • Installation of a 16-zone irrigation system, tailored to meet the specific needs of each area:
  • MP Rotator heads for sod coverage
  • Drip zones for trees and planting beds
  • Rotor zones for native grass establishment
  • Construction of natural river boulder retaining walls to stabilize and shape steep slope areas, blending function with natural aesthetics
  • Creation of multiple large lawn areas wrapping around the home for open green space and recreational use
  • Installation of a 300-foot naturalistic granite rip rap creek bed to channel water away from the home and control erosion — also serving as a striking focal point
  • Strategic planting of native shrubs, ornamental grasses, and spruce trees to frame inner landscaped areas and provide year-round color, texture, and structure
  • Use of vibrant granite and white cobble borders to define spaces and tie the design together with clean, low-maintenance edges
  • Restoration of disturbed zones with erosion control matting and seeding of over one acre with a native pasture blend
  • Full regrading of the landscape to tie together varying elevation levels and ensure effective water management

The end result was a bold, cohesive, and resilient landscape that elevated the property’s natural character while delivering long-term usability and curb appeal. The clients were thrilled — excited to mow their lush new lawns and amazed by the way the landscape brought a fresh glow to their home.
